The Opening of Japan [Apr. 2nd, 2012|07:48 pm]

Title: The Opening of Japan
Challenge: The Age of Sail
Word count: 100
Rating: G
Team: Schwarz
Warnings: none
Note: American gunships commanded by Perry forced Japan to open its ports to international trade in 1853 and 1854. Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868.

"See what happens when people are stupid enough to let foreigners into the country?" Yohji yelled as the population of Edo fled screaming from the quayside.

Omi shrugged; he didn't see how foreigners with gunships and rifles could have been kept out. He rather wished they hadn't brought unnatural western sciences though, or at least hadn't sold them to anyone as clearly insane as Masafumi.

The tentacled monstrosity swallowed the American ship, rippling closer to the shore.

"Sushi tonight," Aya said, lifting his sword.

Omi groaned. Aya had joked; it really was the end of life as they knew it.

Challenge #209 - Age of Sail [Mar. 13th, 2012|11:02 pm]

Sorry for the delay in this challenge, I was away, and then life ate me when I returned!

Alas, in the previous challenge the teams were all so spoilt for linguistic choice that no one actually said anything in any language! And so we move on to Challenge #209 which is Age of Sail . What every assassin needs is a tall ship, and a blood feud to sail her by. Send your favourite killers to 18th/19th century sea! Do Weiss creep onto Dutch trading ships at Nagasaki? Do Schwarz arrive with Perry's fleet? Have Masafumi and Schreient's experiments raised Great Cthulhu from Sunken R'lyeh, to be fought off with massed broadsides?

Whether it's midshipman Omi calculating new navigation charts (opposed by the equally good navigator midshipman Nagi); Hell as the ship's doctor or Yohji as, well, the reason so many sailors need to visit the ship's doctor, you have 100 words of maritime goodness to write!

Challenge #208 - Languages [Feb. 21st, 2012|01:53 pm]

[Tags|]

And we're back with the results of a close-run race! In last week's challenge Weiss gained first place with 40 points, just ahead of Schwarz's 30 points, whilst Schreient gamely came from behind (with knives) on ten points.

This week we have Challenge #208 is Languages : Weiss Kreuz canon makes copious use of German, Crawford occasionally speaks English, and the characters (especially when Side B are around) come from all over the world and speak all sorts of different dialects.

So, whether it's Schuldig mocking Free's Liechtensteinian German, Farfarello and Michel gutting anyone who takes off their accents (or asks where their lucky charms are) or Ken, er, speaking standard Tokyo Japanese, it's time to show off your facility with tongues. So to speak. 100 words of linguistic triumph, incorporating fangirl-[insert language here], please!

Suggestions and late posts for previous challenges in the comments to this post please.

Okay, maybe just a few hearts / Propriety [Feb. 20th, 2012|02:50 pm]

keinerlei
Title: Okay, maybe just a few hearts
Characters/Pairings: Farfarello/Schuldig
Team: Schreient
Word Count: 100
Notes: Mentions of violence and death.

It started innocently enough. No hearts or flowers. Just a trail of blood staining the floor of their hallway, or a victim kept alive long enough for Schuldig to feel him die. Schuldig thought nothing of it.

Then Farfarello held back in their race for the last marked man in the room. When Schuldig looked up from the falling body Farfarello met his eyes and raised his chin, part affirmation, part challenge, before he left the room.

That night, Schuldig saw the trail of blood in a different light as he followed it through the last door down the hall.

Title: Propriety
Characters/Pairings: Farfarello/Nagi
Team: Schwarz
Word Count: 100
Notes: I guess Far is my bicycle of choice?

The coffee left for him on the counter was acceptable. In fact, the coffee was very good, but the experience was marred somewhat by the bloody fingerprint on the cup. As far as morning routines went, though, Nagi didn’t mind.

Then there were flowers. Nagi didn’t dislike them on principle, but they were in his room. He stared at them for a moment before floating them out the window. It was the chocolate that finally proved the last straw. He really had to have a talk with Farfarello.

This was no way for a young assassin genius to be courted.

Sharp Dressed Man/So Hard Done By [Feb. 19th, 2012|11:50 pm]

Title: Sharp Dressed Man
Characters/Pairings: Farfarello
Team: Weiss
Rating: Gen
Word Count: 100
Series: Kapitel

He is freshly showered and shaved, his teeth cleaned, his fingernails spotless. His clothing is washed and pressed. He has shined his shoes to a mirror finish. Not a hair is out of place.

His knives are freshly sharpened; they gleam along their razor edge. They are well maintained without a fleck of rust and the silver inlay is untarnished. They will cut lines as fine as a scalpel. This he tests against his palm, and then bandages it and pulls on white gloves.

Tonight he goes to church to pray.

Sometimes love and hate are one and the same.

Title: So Hard Done By
Characters/Pairings: Chloe, Ken, Aya
Team: Weiss
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100
Series: Side B

These are the moments Ken likes best, flanked on either side by each of his lovers, his bed warm with soft blankets, sweat cooling on his skin from a night of physical exertion. He could lie in this state forever, never moving, one arm around Aya and Chloe at his back. For a little while there's no flower shop, no Kryptonbrand, no missions…

"Well, it looks like that knocked him out good and proper," Chloe says somewhere above his head.

"It is the quietest he's been all week," Aya agrees.

Fuck it, Ken decides. He'll kill them in the morning.

Undying Love [Feb. 19th, 2012|04:37 pm]

Title: Undying Love
Characters/Pairings: Crawford, Schuldig, Nagi/Tot suggested
Team: Schwarz
Rating: Gen
Word Count: 100
A/N: This is all [info]daegaer 's fault! Implied character death.

This was an unexpected side effect. Tapping into Nagi’s true power was always a calculated risk but one Crawford knew was necessary. It was beyond imagination that Nagi would be capable of …this.

“Crawford… I…” Nagi was never so comfortable connecting his emotions to words. “… gomen.” His eyes never lifted from the floor. He turned quickly to return to his room without awaiting acknowledgement.

“You can’t seriously let him keep her.”

“It’s necessary.”

“She’s going to start to smell. Soon.”

“I know.  But he needs this…”

Crawford knew resurrection was impossible. Apparently, Nagi still needed to learn the difference.

All the Lovers in the World/Paradise by the Dashboard Light [Feb. 19th, 2012|08:32 am]

vr2lbast
Title: All the Lovers in the World
Characters/Pairings: Nagi
Team: Weiss
Rating: Gen
Word Count: 100
Series: Kapitel

Nagi didn't think the world would seem so different or that he might enjoy more bright days than dark. That there were bright days at all was a revelation brought to him first by joining Schwarz and secondly by meeting Tot.

Sakura petals fell in a soft cloud and he swirled them up into the heavens, imaging her dancing in their midst beneath a lacy pink parasol.

For once he felt no hate toward the dizzy-eyed young men who walked hand-in-hand with the women of their fancy. He no longer begrudged them their love.

He was one of them now.

Title: Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Characters/Pairings: Schuldig
Team: Weiss
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100
Series: Kapitel era

Midnight. Lover's Lane.

"I love you, baby. You know I do."

"I know, baby. I know. Do it to me now…"

Heavy breathing and awkward fumbling mark them as teenagers. So do their thoughts.

"C'mon, honey…right there."

"Oh, baby. Oh…oh god…"

They had left the door unlocked – Why not? -– and their state of undress does not prevent them from scrambling back against the opposite side of the car.

"Guten aben," Schuldig says. "I'm afraid I need your vehicle."

He fires twice and there is silence.

Schuldig leaves the bodies in the brush.

"Should have gotten a room," he says, smiling.

Weekly Challenge #207 - Love is in the Air [Feb. 13th, 2012|10:27 am]

daegaer
[Tags|]

It's 2012, the world is ending this year (if Schwarz have anything to say about it) and it's a perfect time to kickstart the challenges!

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, time of romance and panicked last-minute dinner reservations, so Challenge #207 is Love is in the Air . Whether it's Nagi getting Tot the perfect box of chocolates, Yohji getting maudlin and strangling his date with a noose of perfect red roses or Aya leaving sweet bunches of flowers at Aya-chan's bedside to make up for the Valentine's Days she's missed, you have one week to write 100 words full of bite-sized romance.

As it's been a while, to quote from the info page: To make it a little more exciting, for every successful drabble (on topic, exactly 100 words), you receive ten (10) points to the team of your choice - Schreient, Schwarz or Weiss. You can change your allegiance differently each time, as you like, but you may only vote for one team per challenge. You don't have to choose the team for the characters you write about in the drabble. The winning team doesn't get anything other than the satisfaction of knowing they beat the others.

Good for What Ails You [Jan. 2nd, 2012|12:48 am]

tochira
Title: Good for What Ails You
Characters/Pairings: Crawford/Schuldig
Written for: [info]nuraya
Prompt: Crawford/Schuldig - spiked punch/eggnog/beverage of your choice
Team: Schwarz
Word Count: 100

AN: I'm really, really sorry this is late - even according to UK time! I wrote it and then nearly forgot to post it… brilliant eh?

"It's not my fault you decided that the best medicine for your cold was copious amounts of shochu laced with tea," Crawford commented. "Now stop feeling sorry for yourself and hurry up, we’re running late."

Schuldig moaned again and coughed for good measure, hunching further into his scarf. "Don't talk as if you actually know better, Mister Whisky-Cures-Everything."

Crawford blinked at Schuldig as if he'd missed something obvious. "Well, clearly if you'd /used/ whisky you wouldn't feel so wretched… stop laughing, it’ll only make your cough worse.” But he slowed his stride and took Schuldig’s arm as they walked, regardless.
